Helloooo Foto Family,

For those who don’t know me, my name is Jake, also known to Logan as "the giraffe." You’ve probably seen my massive head and awkward limbs at the back of EVERY picture taken with FOTO in the past few years. I was a member of FOTO during all four of my years at Penn State and had the honor of serving as both the Alternative Fundraising and Family Relations chair during that time.

As repetitive as it sounds, these four years provided some of the most memorable, enjoyable, and life changing experiences I have had in my life. Experiences that evolved into some interesting lessons. Here’s a list of just a few of those lessons I’ve learned over the past years:

  • No matter what age you are, you will revert to a child once nerf guns, trampolines, or bubbles are brought into the equation.
    • Side note, this looks especially embarrassing when you have the coordination of a newborn horse.
  • You'd be surprised how many full grown college students it takes to put together a bake sale.
  • Applebee's half apps may come at a good price on Monday, but you will pay the ultimate price on Tuesday.
  • Finny + Watergun = 20 damp college students and one happy Finny
  • If you and Charno get invited to Lucas' birthday party, be sure to sneak into the lazer tag game with all of his 8 year old friends.
    • We showed no mercy.
  • If you intercept a football pass specifically meant for Megan, you are the worlds worst Family Relations Chair, but still a decent cornerback.
  • Matty is and always will be adorable.
  • Do not leave a full tray of cupcakes on the counter at a family visit while dogs are present.

All jokes aside, joining FOTO was the best decision I've ever made. Never in a million years did I think that a small group of college kids and THON families could teach me so much. I would go back in a heartbeat. I hope you are all doing well and adapting to our current situation. I won't go into detail here as I think we are all well aware of our predicament by now, but I just wanted to say that if any group can persevere, thrive, and find the positives through all this, it's FOTO. I am sure you are all doing an incredible job and I wish you the best of luck with the remainder of the year. I miss you all and hope to see you soon.

Cheers,

Jake
