Hey FOTO Fam!!
For those who don’t know me my name is Marisa. I just graduated this past May and I was in FOTO all 4 years. I even had the privilege of being the finance chair my junior year. But I think my greatest legacy will forever be being the IM team mom. (I saw that wrecking crew just lost and I am so sorry)
My FOTO journey started because your ex-president Julia, who just so happened to be my roommate, luckily stumbled upon this wonderful org searching through the online involvement fair (stupid covid), she told me I was joining and the next thing I know she’s offering my wii and her laptop to these strangers for THON 2021. No but seriously we sat in our dorm, joined the first zoom and from there I knew that this was the org for me. I never expected some little club I joined freshman year to really mold my college experience but it did. I never thought that I would basically spend almost everyday with the people in this org, but I did and I found some lifelong friendships and memories I will cherish forever.
For all the new members, you’re gonna hear this a thousand times but I just wanna say to go to everything and anything you can and step out of your comfort zone. From the DR/FR subcommittees meetings to family visits to food fundraisers, just go, with your squad or even with that person you just met and sit next to at meetings.Or if you can’t go to those, volunteer for the icebreaker or sit next to someone new and get to know them. No matter how little the event may seem, go because the people in this org are truly the best and you will make lifelong friendships.
I know you guys are just under a hundred days until THON and for all you newcomers you truly don’t understand how exciting that is. These days will fly by and soon you will be at the BJC for a truly magical experience. You guys have picked in my mind the best org to do THON with (definitely not bias).
I am seriously so jealous of all you right now, I wish I could be sitting in another monday meeting playing some silly little icebreaker that we took way too seriously (cough cough birdie on a perch). I miss you all and can’t wait to see what you guys do this year.
Xoxo, Marisa
