LAST MONDAY MEETING BEFORE THON WEEKEND—WOOHOO!!

Hello everyone! I’m Julia Putignano, as some of you may know. If you don’t, here’s a little recap of my FOTO history: Served as general member, FR, Alt Funds, VP, THON 2023 dancer- got sturdy with my crew, and President.

As you’re starting to learn, throwing yourself into FOTO as much as possible is incredibly rewarding and beautiful. Whether you’re on the board or a general member, the impact you have on our kids’ lives is everlasting. And I mean it when I say that getting to know each of our families on a deeper level will stay with you forever (I even have a tattoo that the kids drew to prove it!).

If you’re here today, you’ve already made one of the best choices—starting a journey with some of the most selfless, down-to-earth, and kind-hearted people you’ll ever meet. These people will lift you up in your lowest moments and show up for you even when you can’t show up for yourself—including during THON Weekend.

So…here are my 6 tips for THON Weekend! (These are NOT foolproof, but this is how I survived 46 hours—twice.)

1. LISTEN to your body. If you need to take a lap, have some alone time, blast some music, or roll out your muscles—just do it!
2. Be proactive. I firmly believe that waiting until you’re in pain can sometimes make things worse. Wear compression socks and take Advil if you need it—who cares what time it is!
3. Change your clothes and brush your teeth. Even at hour 40, when you’re exhausted and feeling gross, this will help you feel refreshed.
4. EAT, DRINK & STRETCH! This is SO important for THON Weekend. Even small snacks and sips are better than nothing—sneak in some fruit, granola bars, or fruit snacks!
5. Stay for an overnight. This is when you really get to know people on a deeper level. When you’re delirious, you may even learn someone’s whole life story! It’s truly the best time to throw yourself into the org even more.
6. Just have fun! Stand by people you don’t know, support the dancers, talk to the families, and keep the vibes high. Your body is capable of more than you realize, and this is the BEST 46 hours.

I’m so excited for everyone to experience THON this weekend. Whether it’s your first or last, savor every moment. I can’t wait to be there to cheer you all on, be your mom, your lap buddy, or a shoulder to lean on.

See you all in 6 days,
Julia
